How many times have you felt like you’ve had a broken brain? You know… like when your mind just refuses to work? When a word is just beyond reach? When an idea can’t seem to fully form. Or how about when forgetfulness rules the day? Some might call that a bad day or give it a technical term like a cognitive malfunction, but I call it broken brain.
I get broken brain a lot. Too much actually. I can go whole days where words and thoughts just aren’t coming out like they should. Hell, I’ve had whole weeks like that. It’s frustrating to know the word you want to use, but can’t quite get it from the brain to tongue, or brain to page.
So is there a cure? Can this malfunction be restored? Can the broken brain be repaired?

There comes a time in every writer’s career, when you look back at a piece of work and realize how truly bad it is. Wait. Did you just say that happens to you all the time? Well, isn’t that funny, because that happens to me all the time too. It’s like the work done before (even if done just last week!) becomes an immediate target for all your ridicule and disgust. But the truly loathsome stuff, happened back in the beginning of your writing career. That’s the stuff that gets burned or stuffed in a locked drawer never to see the light of day again.
There is a defining moment, though, when you realize that your approach to writing was all wrong, or perhaps your understanding of how to write was all wrong. You go back to read a project to discover a most horrifying truth… the piece is a stumbling piece of disastrous plot, unbelievable characters, graceless dialogue, and just overall forced writing.

After a good push to get the second draft of my novel Blood Feud done, I feel a need to stop and take a breather. Mostly because I’m feeling a bit worn out and feeling the edge of burned-out creeping up on me. That’s the last thing I need, so I’ve decided to take a break from my novel and catch up on other things. One of those things is my blog. I already moved it from Blogger to WordPress (as you probably already noticed). That was a big step for me. One I’ve been putting off for awhile. I’m glad I made the change though. I really do love WordPress better. It’s so much more versatile.
Anyways, I will be taking the time to do more posts on my blog. Don’t be surprised to see two or more posts a week for awhile. Yes, I know that’s a epidemic for me. It’s something I never saw myself doing EVER. Hold on while I look out my window to see if pigs are flying. Nope. No pigs. Yet.
